Albums missing in LR

I’ve done something to mess up my LR albums. I was having some issues publishing existing albums. LR would hang almost immediately (I see a similar thread about this and LR 11.2). In trying to fix things, I reloaded the plugin, which made all my existing albums disappear in LR. If I go into backlight, I can see them all. I went to recreate them in LR, but it says they already exist so creates a new different slug. Is there a way to get my existing albums back into LR? This is Backlight 3.

Dave

Reloading the TTG Publisher should not affect your albums, they’re stored in the catalog. Are you looking in the correct catalog?

Did you install the TTG-publisher.lrplugin folder or the zipped file that you downloaded?

HI Rod,
I just dropped the .lrplugin file into my LR plugin folder. It is the correct catalog, but LR did update 2 days ago.

I wonder if deleted the publish service and reinstalled it. That might delete the albums in LR? If so, it looks like I have to recreate my galleries and upload with a new slug. Then maybe go into Backlight and delete the old ones from there?

We routinely replace the Publisher plugin when there are updates from TTG. Removing it doesn’t remove the albums created in Lightroom.

To be safe, make a backup of your catalog first.

Did you delete the Publisher service you created to publish your albums? That’s something you don’t want to do.
You can delete and reinstall the plugin itself, but not the instance you created to manage your albums.

I’m not sure, but I must have deleted the Publisher service. I think that is the only thing that could explain the disappearance.

Is there anything I can do now to not make this any worse? If I publish a new test album will the old ones be deleted off my website?

Dave

They shouldn’t, all the album info is in the Backlight database and the images are already on the server.
Usually, if you only delete the Publisher plugin you’ll still see all your albums and album sets under Publisher Services in Lightroom. They’ll be greyed out, but they’ll be there.
If you deleted the TTG Publisher instance for your website in Publish Services, that will get rid of all the albums and sets from Lightroom.

First try creating a new Publisher instance for your site. Make sure it has the same top-level folder.
I’m not positive, but I don’t think it will re-create you albums and sets in Lightroom (if it does, then Wooo Hooo!). But it’s worth a shot.

If it doesn’t, then you can just put your albums and sets under the control of Backlight Publisher, disconnecting them from Lightroom.
In Backlight, go to Publisher. Click on the Albums link.
For each album and album set, do the following:

Click on the name of the album or set.
Click on Edit Album
Go to Advanced Settings
Set Album Management to Managed by Backlight
