Can Essays be used as thumbnails for links?

I can implement essays in Backlight 5 and love how they work but I have no idea how to use the grid to contain internal links rather than loading the main image.

my use case is I want to keep the menu clean and just have for example videography but on the page i would like to create thumbnails in the grid that link to various pages that would for example be my various showreels specific for that type of genre.

Im pretty sure its possible somehow but i dont know how.

I don’t think you can make Essay do what you want.
If you’re publishing your videos using Backlight Theater, you could put those video albums in an album set, creating a grid of thumbnails, each leading to a video.

And if you need a grid where each thumbnail leads to a page of several videos, you can use an album set that contains more album sets.

The other option I can think of is using the TTG Responsive Grid to create exactly what you need. That would require using html.
