What am I missing? I’ve tried to republish all image metadata through LR.
I’ve cleared my browser cache several times.
I’ve cleared Template Cache
My images for sure all have a Title in LR
I opened developer tools in Chrome (using F12)
I see the section that should have the caption, but all it says it this
Hello Rod,
Yes, the album existed before. It was based on a Standard Album Template - which was based on an Okapi Page. It is now based on a Pangolin Gallery Template. I have republished metadata through the publisher in LR to no avail.
Some more info here: I also updated this album to include Cart integration. Sure enough, the Cart icon appears in each image in the thumbnail view, as well as the slideshow view. HOWEVER, the pricing is not correct. I am using ITPC - Category entries, to control the pricing structure for each image and that is based upon the aspect ratio of the image. So a 1:1 image has a tag of “Square” in {Category}, a 2:3 image has “35mm”, etc. All the images have a pricing structure for “Square” - regardless of their aspect ratios.
This tells me that the metadata is NOT being uploaded to my site properly from LR. Does this additional clue help with the sleuthing?
More info:
I am on v7.0 of the LR plug-in - which I believe is the latest version.
I went into Publisher in Backlight admin and deleted all the images from the gallery. I then republished all the images from LR (images and metadata). Lo and behold, I now see the {Title} caption below all the thumbnails.
HOWEVER, the Cart information remains incorrect. All the images are still stuck showing pricing for 1:1 ratios.
I have many other albums that I want to switch over to Pangolin. I don’t relish the idea of having to remove all the images from each one, and then republishing everything to get this to work. That is going to take some time. And even still, the Cart remains broken. It’s almost like I have to completely remove the old albums and then totally rebuild them from scratch. Not a viable solution, IMHO.
Pricing scheme names are appearing in the page source code for the “data-price” field (PAN25, 35mm, Square) so the metadata is being uploaded.
Make sure that the spelling of the pricing scheme names matches exactly the names you’re entering in the Category field (the names are case sensitive) and that the pricing for each scheme is correct.
The album is using the “default” scheme as a fall back. I’m guessing that has the same pricing as “Square”
I can now successfully get my albums upgraded from Okapi to Pangolin, but let me tell you, it is a wonky experience.
I take an existing Okapi album. I go into the album and delete all the images (from Publisher on the admin site, not from LR). I then upgrade the album to be based on my new Pangolin album template. I then totally republish all the images and metadata from LR to the site.
Again, the caption underneath my thumbnails are not there. The Cart information is only displaying pricing for the “Square” setting I noted earlier.
I then go back to my images and delete them all a second time. I then totally republish them all over again from LR. This time, the thumbnail caption is there and the Cart pricing is spot on. WTH? It works, but it takes two full passes?
So I took another album to convert over. This time, I changed album to point to my new Pangolin template. I then deleted all the images. I then republished in full. Same result. No caption in the thumbnail, all Cart pricing set to “Square”. I then deleted all the images and republished a second time. On the second pass, the problems go away.
Why should I have to delete in full and republish twice? Very frustrating!
I don’t know. That’s not how it usually works
However, going from Opaki to Pangolin (to Kookaburra) might require republishing images because of new or changed features
I understand that I might have to totally republish the images and metadata, due to the module change from Okapi to Pangolin. However, what I don’t understand is how the the metadata is just not being pushed properly. Is there a way I can go into my site via a file manager, and nuke/delete stuff out of there and then republish all? That way I start with a super clean slate with no possibility of residual Okapi stuff getting in the way?
Can we get Matthew to chime in on this topic? From my point of view, the software is not working the way it is supposed to and we have no clear reason as to why. I am just now, upgrading another album and this time, the caption in the thumbnail is not appearing after 3 separate re-publishing efforts.
I can now see in the page source code where the image metadata should be <ul class="image_metadata">, but there is no text in the list item that holds it.
(when I looked earlier, I didn’t notice the image-metadata ul item.
If you just enabled it, then the image metadata needs to be republished.
Republished the metadata and now I see the caption information in the thumbnail. All good.
Another thing I noticed. I went into another one of my albums in LR. I changed the template to my Pangolin template. I then did a full republish on the entire album. That worked perfectly. Captions are appearing in thumbnails and Cart pricing is spot on.
I was changing the template for each Album from within the web admin console through Publisher - Galleries. I am going to make sure to NOT use that method anymore. Just make the change from within LR. No need to first delete images, then republish. No need to do it 2 or 3 times. We may have a workaround on our hands.
