Hi, since a few days the contact form will not work.

Do you get error messages?
Do you get a success message?
Do the messages appear in Backlight > Contacts?
Have you checked spam/junk folders?
1 - no
2 - yes
3 - yes
4 - yes
Last message I got was on 9th august.

I take it that the messages are not in the spam folder?
Has your host changed anything? Maybe updated php version?
Are you using your icloud.com email address to receive email?
You have “mail” selected for mail send type yet you’ve also got smtp credentials filled out.
Yes, because in january there was the same problem. When I used these settings, it worked again. The email adress is from my provider one.com and forwarding to my icloud email adress. The smtp server from Apple.
Rainer
to use the “mail” setting, your email address should end in yoursite.com
Email Settings | Backlight
You could try switching Mail Send Type back to smtp. Otherwise, wait for @Ben to chime in.
Nothing worked.
Not on my website and not on my friends website.

A solution could be to set a mailto link in the menu, so that the mail app of an user opens to sent a message. My friend owns a littel hotel so this is urgend to work. But at time I have no idea how to do this.
Rainer
The smtp settings are only shown but have no effect when mail is selected. But smtp does not work too.
Rainer
So I have now deactivated the contact form and changed to a mailto link.
This works fine. But now I have trouble with a menu link to other languages.
This works fine but, if I klick in the menu bar on - contact - (in all 3 languages) the language selection in the menu bar will not open an other page in another language.
I cannot find in Backlight where I can fix this.

Idea?
Rainer
it looks like the page itself contains some html errors like this:
<font><font color =blue>Please click here for your request</font></a></p>
Font inside of font and not closed. (the font element is also deprecated) and the error I saw in the html validator was “violating nesting rules”
Try running the page through an html validator service and fix any unclosed elements. I’d suggest using inline css rather than the <font>
element.
I don’t know if that’s affecting your menu, but it’s a variable that should be eliminated.
Speaking of menu items (your language menu item always leads back to the home page in the designated language), why create a parallel set of pages rather than using Backlight’s built-in language feature? Just curious.
Don’t know, 3 years ago. I have once more to learn. I don’t know how I have maken this. Also the build in language feature - no plan.

Website fixed. elements deleted. Changed to span.
Contact form is unusable.

The contact form requires that the server be set up to send emails. This would be something your host would manage. Who are you hosting with?
Thanks. Does the domain in your ‘from’ name match the domain of your website?
If it does, do you have a way of creating that email address in your hosting control panel? This can be one way to get your host’s mail server to send emails with the right configuration. Note that you don’t need to use your host for your email to do this.
A good way of debugging email quality is to run a test with https://www.mail-tester.com
To do that:
Thanks, I am a little bit busy. I will try it soon and then get back to you.
