Hello forum members,
The information I found here about embedding videos is a bit old and didn’t help me.
So, here’s my question again:
I would like to embed videos in my gallery. My own videos in mp4 format.
I’m using the latest BL version and LR.
When I create a page using LR and try to upload a video, LR says it doesn’t work.
I created a theater page in BL. Now when I try to upload a video from BL, I can’t select the video.
Are there specific formats/sizes, etc., for videos? The information in the documentation isn’t helping me.
Thanks in advance for your feedback. Best, Klaus
Videos cannot be included or placed in regular Backlight albums. (And I don’t believe that Lightroom Publisher can export and upload videos)
Use Theater’s HTML5 Video presentation to post your mp4 videos

Thank you for your information.
I realize this doesn’t work with regular galleries. That’s why I created a theater page.
LR doesn’t export videos, I’m aware of that.
So I tried uploading a video directly via BL. But that doesn’t work either.
What I need is a simple guide on how to embed videos.
You need to upload your video files via ftp
They need to go into a specific folder.
The docs on using html video need some updating, but they should get you going in the right direction.
I believe the video files need to go in /backlight/galleries/videosrc
You don’t need Lightroom for any of it if you don’t want to. You can create the Theater album in Backlight Publisher and add the Video ID and any text you like.
Thanks for the info.
What kind of folder does it have to be? A specific name? A specific position in the file structure?
Can I use mp4 formats?
How do I then connect to the Theater Page, or how do I tell the page which video it’s about?
If using Pangolin templates and/or Theater Add-on, all of what Rod says above applies. The specific section of documentation you’ll want to pay attention to is for HTML video.
If using Kookaburra, you can also try the new media support via essays. See this:

Thank you very much for the info, dear Mathew.
Sorry to ask again. If I upload an mp4 via FTP, does it have to be in a specific directory?
And how do I get the connection from the album (theater) to the video in BL?
I haven’t figured it out yet… sorry.
Thank you very much, Klaus
@Matthew
Matt, can you verify the folder name and path where videos need to be uploaded.
This is what the documentation shows
Upload your files into a folder named “videosrc” in the main domain of your Backlight installation, i.e.: %%/backlight%% \ %%/galleries%% \ %%/%%videosrc
I’m imagining that should read /backlight/galleries/videosrc/ but even that doesn’t seem right. It’s been a while since I played with it, but I seem to remember the videosrc folder needed to be in the root of the site?
It’s in the Album setttings
Under Publish Services, create a new album:
Under Base Settings => Template, select your template.
Under Page Content => Video ID, supply the video ID; the name of the video should then be entered into Lightroom without a file extension, i.e. “my_awesome_video”.
If you’re not using Lightroom to create the album, use the corresponding field in the Album Settings in Backlight Publisher.
First we need confirmation of the location where the videosrc folder should be created so you know where to upload your video files.
For Theater, I believe should be at the root of the site, https://mydomain.com/videosrc
.
Thank you very much for your feedback.
I’ll try it out with this information.
