Installing Backlight 1.2

Can someone provide me with the installation instruction for Backlight 1.2?

Due to some unfortunate mishaps I lost my web hotel some years back. I just got a new one and I wanted to start over with my Backlight powered website. I have all the installation files for 1.2.4 (and .1, .2, .3) but I lost the installation instruction and the link in the readme file (http://backlight.theturninggate.net/docs/doku.php?id=installation_setup) is invalid. I tried the the one posted for the 2+ version but as suspected it did not work.

You’ll need to upload via FTP. I don’t have the original install docs, but I do have a readme file for a subsequent update that should hopefully get you there.
You may need the email address you used to order Backlight along with the order number.

when logging in, the defaults username is admin and the password is ttg8888 (I believe)

I’ll copy the readme text and direct message it to you

Peter, I really don’t want you to be installing Backlight 1 at this point. For one thing, it’s likely you’re going to have PHP compatibility issue with your host, as most hosts have upgraded their PHP versions by now. Another thing, you won’t be able to use our upgrade mechanisms from Backlight 1 to a newer version, should you choose to do so; that started with Backlight 2.

So if you don’t want to purchase the latest Backlight just yet, that’s fine. But I will offer you a complimentary upgrade to another outdated version that isn’t Backlight 1. Please let me know your full name and email address, and I’ll send something over. You can message me directly to provide that information; click on my name, and then click the “Message” button.

Thank you Matthew,

I am starting to feel like a technical imbecill. I cannot find the “message” button you are referring to. I will try to send you an email directly.

Hi Peter, you’re not a technical imbecile. The message button was hidden for your account. We usually have to upgrade the user account status for it to work, which I’ve now done. I assume that’s the forum software protecting us from spam.
