Installing Backlight ONLY for photo albums NOT whole website

Hello, I have Backlight 4 (and am eligible for free Backlight 5 update.)

Previously I had Backlight 4 installed on my server but a lot of my website (made with Rapidweaver) got all messed up so I ended up deleting Backlight from said server (Bluehost). This was because I had uploaded the Backlight http access file evidently and after setting things up in Lightroom it overrode my original website. At that time it was in my https://www.edophoto.com website’s pubic_html folder called “edo”. NOW what I want to do is create “off-site” gallery pages that are technically outside of my Rapidweaver built site BUT actually INSIDE my “edo” folder in the public_html that holds everything (including the galleries previously built with CS3, which are in their own independent folders inside “edo”).

QUESTION: HOW and WHERE should I reinstall Backlight 4 or 5 - if I only want to make galleries and NOT make a whole website since I already have that. I would want the newly added galleries address to look something like Edward Levinson Edo Photos (this page doesn’t exist but you can see the link)

Previous CS3 gallery addresses look like this

Previous CS3 gallery addresses look like this Edward Levinson - Edo Photos - Japan
and I uploaded them manually using FTP software after exporting from Lightroom at the time they were made.

Hope my question is clear. Thanks in advance for any instructions or links to instructions. The main installing Backlight docs and videos that I previously studied don’t cover this about just using it to make galleries. (or I missed that if they did!)

You can use Backlight for just your albums by uploading only the backlight/ and galleries/ folders from the unzipped Installer folder. (Don’t upload the index.php or the .htaccess files from the root of the unzipped installer folder.)

You can upload those folders to the root of your site ore put them in a sub-folder or sub-domain.

After uploading the backlight/ folder, install as per the Installation document.

Thanks I’ll give it a try. Since I have uninstalled Backlight 4, should I just start over with Backlight 5. I can see that the Backlight Publisher plugin is still there in LR. Can I just leave it there, or delete it and start afresh?

Might as well start fresh with BL5.
After installation, go to your Backlight Modules page to download the latest Publisher plugin and install it in Lightroom.

Do I need to uninstall the previous LR plugin first? And thanks for the advice.

I just downloaded version 5.
There doesn’t seem to be a .htaccess file in the Backlight 5 Installer (see the screenshot. ) So I just upload the 2 blue folders only to my server right?

the .htaccess file is probably being hidden by the system (you can Google how to reveal hidden files for your operating system if you want to see those files).
But you don’t need it or the index.php for your installation since you’re not going to be creating any stand-alone pages like Home or Contact anyway.

So just upload the backlight/ and galleries/ folders.

When you install the current version it should just overwrite the old

Thanks Rod, for the simple directions. I had forgotten about the “hidden files” thing. Will give it all a try.
