Are you getting any error messages? What version of Backlight are you using?
If Backlight 5, are you also using the latest Publisher plug-in (7.0)?
This happened yesterday when I was using Backlight 4, and I really=messed up when I Installed version 5, so much so that I can’t even get back to Backlight with my web browser.
what steps did you take to install BL5?
Do you have a backup of your old BL4 site?
I replaced the installation file on my web server, then accessed it via the web browser and ran the installer. I think I made the mistake of then copying over the new index and .htaaccess from the extracted file into the backlight folder.
I do not have a backup.
I am OK with republishing everything if I have to start from scratch. Perhaps you could help me do that.
Did you get the index.php and .htaccess files sorted?
There are two different sets of those files. One set is in the root of the site (at the same level as the backlight/ folder. And the other set is inside the backlight/ folder. Never put the index.php and .htaccess files that are in the root of the downloaded and unzipped Backlight-5-Installer-xxx folder into the backlight/ folder.
And don’t put the index.php and .htaccess files that are in the backlight/ folder into the root of your site.
I am afraid that I put the two from the new installer folder in the Backlight folder.
then just upload the two files in the intaller folder’s backlight/ folder to your site’s backlight folder.
Not working. I am trying to copy the various folders on my server from the previous version to the installation of version 5. Will that work? One issue I am running into is copying the designer folder into the data folder, but it says that the designer folder is already present; I do not see one there.
Also, how do I reinstall my Client Response add-on?
Mike
All add-ones are installed from the Backlight Modules page
The entire upgrade from Backlight 4 to 5 happens on the Backlight Modules page. There’s no need to manually download anything, or to replace any files whatsoever. I’ve made a point of linking to our guide videos in every new version announcement. =/
Regardless, Lightroom doesn’t really care what’s on your server. There are two separate things to do here:
Item #2 is the only thing that matters insofar as Lightroom is concerned.
As for putting your site back to order, you should make a backup of your backlight/data
folder, just in case.
The installer is unimportant beyond the initial installation. For example, someone who started with Backlight 2 and has kept up-to-date through the years will still be running on the Backlight 2 installer, and that is completely fine.
Assuming you can access Backlight, you should do this:
This will ensure Backlight is sourcing the correct orders, and has access to your add-ons, etc. If you’ve changed email addresses between orders – for example, if Backlight 4 and Backlight 5 orders use different emails – let me know so that I can update the records within our system.
Assuming all orders are using the same email, you should be able to visit the Backlight Modules page to reinstall everything, and things should just work.
Get the Publish Services plugin also from the Backlight Modules page, and replace your old version with the new one.
Hi,
My previously purchased Client Response Add-on is showing that I need to purchase it.
Mike
I should take a look at your orders and make sure they match up. Mike, can you let me know your full name and/or email address(es) so that I can find things? Best to DM me; don’t post your private info here in public.
Actually, I see your full name under your profile picture here, and I’ve managed to find your past orders. However, I’m not seeing your Backlight 5 order. Did you use a different name?
