Maps link in search results

This was something I know Matt was looking at with Backlight 2 on the original forum at id 11452. Apparently the url for the old forum isn’t allowed, so I can’t link to the old topic.

Given that this was one version of Backlight ago and on the old version of the forum, I wanted to check if this is either fixed in BL3 or something that is still being looked into. I haven’t found an option for it, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

Thanks,
Kyle

Hmmm… #11452 points me to a CE3 post talking about watermarks.

Maybe I’m talking about a different id. I got mine from the url: /viewtopic.php?id=11452

I inadvertently used ‘pid’ instead of ‘id’ :(.

Correct! That forum is to be moved, or possibly even deleted. I’ve banned it to prevent the spreading of soon-to-be-dead links, as posts for of dead links would be a bad start to this forum. Any information we want to include here, we’ll copy the content, rather than link to it.

Maps are enabled on a per-album basis, and search results are not “an album”, so no, I don’t think maps are likely to work in search results as things are at the moment.

I would like to see the JSON API expand to allow keyword searches, and then we might be able to get back a full collection of data for any given image. That’d be interested to work with. We don’t have a clear picture yet, though, of a timeline or priorities for new API functionality, as I think other development is taking higher priority for upcoming releases.

Got it. That makes sense.

With regards to the maps links, I have maps enabled for all my galleries. Could there be a site level switch to allow maps results in search vs. not? That could be an interim solution until/unless the API was expanded to the point where it wasn’t needed.

in search results, if the template is using the slide show presentation, then from the large image view you can click on the image menu to the right. Then click on the Permalink icon. The image in the permalink page has a map icon.
Another option is to change the album template assigned to Search to one that uses the Single Image presentation.

I see what you are saying, and how it is possible to get the maps link from search. I’d like it to be easy for users of my site though, and that process isn’t intuitive.

I don’t like using the single images if I can avoid it, because images in the opposite orientation of the user’s screen (ie portrait on mobile or landscape on pc) end up being displayed such that you need to scroll to see the whole image.

My guess is that your request for a site level switch to turn on maps is probably more complicated than figuring out the API expansion.
