Nuclear Option installation directions

I just got Backlight 4, downloaded, will be working with it this weekend.

My existing web site uses CE3 with Lightroom publishing, but one of my goals for changing to Backlight is to stop with Lightroom publishing. So, I don’t want to do the “upgrade” installation… not sure I can even find the publishing content in Lightroom at this point (many years later.). I want to be able to follow the Backlight clean installation instructions without worrying about something hanging out on my host servers that will make me crazy.

What do I need to get rid of on my existing web hosting environment to effectively clean ALL traces of CE3 and the CE3 site? What’s the name of the file that’s on my publishing computer?

Thanks. CE3 was a wonderful tool, and I’m looking forward to using Backlight 4.

It’s been awhile so I’m going by memory. But basically, you can get rid of everything.
You don’t want to keep any index.html or index.php files. You’ll be replacing any .htaccess file so you can get rid of that.
You’ll be starting from scratch with all new albums I take it? Then you can get rid of your galleries folder.
I think CE3 had a photos/ and thumbnails/ folder for any home page slide shows. Probably a resources/ or lib/ folder. All that can go.
Frankly, unless you have files on the site you need to save for something else, you can probably just remove all old CE3 files.
If you’re not sure what’s CE3 and what isn’t, you could always export CE3 pages to a local folder and take a look at what’s there.

Files you probably won’t want to get rid of include the php.ini file, if you have one.

One thing to check out is the php version that your site is using. If it’s still capable of running CE3 then the version is probably pretty old and it should be safe to update it.

To be safe, consider downloading the contents of your site to your computer to serve as a backup in case you need to restore it.
