PayPal forcing guest check out users to create accounts

Got a complaint from a customer who doesn’t want a PayPal account that they are being forced to create an account even when checking out with guest mode. What gives? I’m using backlight 5 with the cart option. Please help as I have just kicked off a massive sale from my site. I can’t use the invoicing option. Thx in advance.

This is the most recent video I could find about this. Try checking this in your account settings, and let us know whether it helps.

@Matthew I was curious about this so I checked my PayPal settings and PayPal Account Optional was turned on in my account, Yet when I tried a test checkout, I was faced with the same issue Jim is: I couldn’t complete a credit card transaction without creating or logging into a PayPal account.

I did find this:

Which makes mention of an additional step with custom coded checkouts

Good find, @rod_barbee ! Thank you.

@Ben Based on that page, do we need to make any updates to our cart implementation?

@Matthew the Cart has long passed the parameter for guest checkouts (SOLUTIONTYPE=Sole).

I appreciate you all taking a look at this! Thanks and I hope it can be resolved. Alternatively for my PayPal-averse customers, are there any plans to offer an alternative payment method, like Venmo (owned by the same evil company now, I know), Jim
