PHP error on file upload Pangolin and Kookaburra

I’m using Backlight 6.
I’m testing Kookaburra at https://tomowensphoto.co.uk/home/, but the error I’m getting also applies to my live domain https://tjowens.com/.

If I try to upload a file via Backlight/designer/templates/uploaded images, and it is over 2Mb in size I get

When I look for php.ini under my public_html folder on my host, it does not show up, nor does it apear after searching for in it cPanel, or by using FileZilla FTP client but obviously it must exist somewhere otherwise I would not get the error screen.
I raised a ticket with the host who said I could create my own php.ini but that had no effect on increasing the value from 2M to 40M when I tried it.

My live site uses Lightroom Publisher (and that works OK) and my test site is experimenting with using Backlight.
Has anyone else come across this issue and found a soloution?
Thanks.

Did you download the php.ini file, edit, save and re-upload?

Hi Rod,
No. I just created and saved one in the root of tomowensphoto on the host server in cPanel rather than just under public_html.
Am I supposed to download and upload?
TomO

Yes. Just download it via FTP and edit it with a plain text or code editor. It’s kind of a long text file, so do a search for upload_max_filesize and that will take you right to it. Then change it to something like 64M, save, and upload.

OK Thanks

Check in the php info section of Backlight Admin → Special Links if the file is listed.

Hi Daniel,
I run the phpinfo from the special links.

That is where I found the upload size to be 2M but I don’t get to see the path in my folder/file structure in cPanel.
I have raised another ticket with the host about access rights. I presume they could just dump a copy in public_html for me to edit.
Thanks.

Sorted now.
The host came back to me as they don’t let users update those values hence I had no access to the file to edit, but when I updated PHP (which I am allowed to do) from 7.4 to 8.1 the update was supposed to move the file upload data limit across but it did not so it reverted to 2M
The host has now updated to 128M.
That is something I’ll look out for when 8.1 is deprecated!
Thanks

Good to see you have this fixed. Had you not, and seeing you mentioned cPanel, I would have suggested increasing the upload size using MultiPHP INI Editor which is in the Software section.

Problem is they removed that editor from the software section.
I reckon it is because I am hosted on a shared server. I cannot justify the cost of a dedicated server so live with the consequences.
128Mb is better than I expected.
I just have to try and learn how to manage albums in this test environment without using Lightroom Publisher as I test out Kookaburra.

My cPanel is also on a shared server so I guess its down to the individual host what they allow. Athough mine is actually a reseller service but still only £14. I’ll ask about their basic cPanel accounts if you ever want to move host!
