Resolution and quality for Kookaburra

When I upload images with Publish to Kookaburra album, you recommend uploading double resolution. I’m not sure how this works if I use Lightroom to upload. I’m also not sure how to choose color profiles and quality in image renderings.

Therefore, I have created three test albums to see how this works.

Two images from lightroom with a width of 1500 pixels and sRGB profile loaded from Lightroom with quality 68%

I export the same images from Lightroom with quality 68% and sRGB (test1), adobe RGB (test2) and prophoto RGB (test3).

In the grid I see a difference in the tumal nails but otherwise there is no difference. To make it easier to compare, I put a comparison template in the album.

I’ve been too eager to have the images at high resolution, and the quality is making the customs too slow. That’s why I need some advice on the upper limit of resolution and quality from you guys.

In your Kookaburra template, just set your desired display size. For example, if you want images to display at 1000px, then that’s what the slider should say.

Uploading from Lightroom’s publish services, you don’t need to think about image size beyond that.

If you’re exporting images, and uploading via the web interface, then export your files at 2000px (1000 x 2).

For setting quality in Lightroom, see Jeffrey Friedl's Blog » An Analysis of Lightroom JPEG Export Quality Settings. IMO, 69 is the sweet spot for most images. If you see banding in blue skies, for example, bump to 70, which puts you into the next quality tier. Beyond that tier, file sizes explode for very little visual payoff.
