Site upgrade

yes

the error message has something about menu. Did you assign a menu to the page?

You have a new page template named “test”. It has not been assigned to a page. Create a new page and assign the “test” template to it.

It dawned on me that the previous Okapi portal only led to the Fr or En versions of the site. No menu per see. Only navigation to one language site or the other. It’s just a page used as a portal to the main site.

UPDATE: I created a new page and assigned the test template. It works.

I’ve succeeded in placing an image on the page (https://nathaliemoliavko-visotzky.com/test) in page settings/page copy…(Thanks for the post Rod). But I’m having a hard time placing where I want it.
Using the inspector, I did place it but alas, I can’t find where to implement this setting.

I am trying to avoid too much CSS but, is this called for here?

Because this will be a bilingual site, I have started editing the languages section; I did away with the navigation buttons “Fr” and “En”; now I have this drop-down button that leads…nowhere! I’d really like to change that button with something more obvious also.

Thee
French and English sections already exist as side-by-side websites. The plan is to make one site fully bilingual and do away with the other site. This would simplify matters, I guess.
I’ve done it before ( https://marccharlebois.com/home/ ) but it’s been a while.

So, for the first day, I think I’m progressing.

You’re trying to move the image up?

If so, in the page template under Masthead > Title/Logo, try changing the Padding-top/bottom setting.

Yup! I can raise both the image and nameplate together using the Masthead > Title/Logo > Padding-top/bottom setting.
But, since the image is embedded in the Page Content and the nameplate is in the Masthead
I should be able to move both independently. With the inspector I can reduce the size of the Masthead like so: Capture d'écran_ 2022-02-17 à 11.34.06
But this is in the inspector. To make it “stick” should I use CSS6? While I am trying to keep the CSS to a minimum, I guess there comes a time when one is compelled to use it.

the masthead still has 65px of top and bottom padding (and 250px left and right). You can change that in the template.
Have you looked at what happens when you decrease the browser width to mobile sizes? Your masthead get teeny tiny.

My gosh! It’s ridiculously small !
Guess I’ll have to redo the whole Masthead design…

you just need to create a secondary masthead logo image for mobile devices. And make sure there’s not all that padding to squish it out of existence on a phone.

There are already two nameplate images installed: one is 992x46 and the other in the High-Res is 1388x64.
Padding-top/bottom at 65 and left/right at 250. That’s about bright for my screen (1920x1080) but for the mobile…

By the way, in the Okapi/backlight, there was a section called “Identity” . As it been removed from Pangolin?

I believe Identity is now the Add Logo Image section.
You can add a Secondary Masthead sized for mobile devices. The High-Res image is there for hi-res displays like Retina displays

image

You can also control the size of your logo image using the Aspect Ratio control so you don’t have to use so much padding

Great, that aspect-ratio setting requires some fiddling around but for now the page is starting to look like something.

Thanks

How should I set the navigation towards the Album-Set page via the Fr/En button? I have created an Album-set page and a Pangolin-theater page for the video clips.
In the Okapi version, it was quite straightforward: a portal page with the Fr/En navigation leading to separate album sets from which one could select a video.
But now, I am trying to do something similar but how do I set the navigation?

That button is the Language chooser. It will simply choose the language used on the site, it’s not a navigation button.

If you’re creating parallel sites like before, then use the regular navigation like you did on the old site.

If you’re creating parallel sites like before, then use the regular navigation as you did on the old site.

Well, I’m trying to do as I once did for https://marccharlebois.com/ That is, a single album-set page and a single album page (Pangolin theatre containing the video clips).

If it can’t be done, I’ll consider building a new set of parallel album-sets and album-theatre pages, each in their own language.

you mean embedding the album set in the home page? You can do that. No need for a parallel site.
All you need to do is to write the text for each language in html.

In the case of your other site, the EN/FR button is just changing the language used on the site.

Still trying to reduce that spacing between the image and the nameplate. Fiddled around with image-ration in Primary Masthead, but all that does is move up or down the image and nameplate as a set rather than independently.

Also, I noticed that from time to time, a settings change will make all borders revert back to 24px. I changed the base-offset colour to orange in order to spot when this happens. And when it does…wow, all that orange!
