What’s new in Tessera 1.4
Partial Overlay
A new way to separate your reconstruction: keep only some of the shapes, chosen by where they sit in the image.
- Linear mode: keep shapes on one side of the image. You set the direction with Angle (0–360°), how much of the image is kept with Coverage, and how soft the edge is with Sensitivity.
- Radial mode: keep shapes near points you place on the preview.
- Tap or drag the preview to position a point.
- Each point has its own radius and sensitivity.
- You can place up to 8 points. A shape is kept if it falls within any of them.
- You can hide the point markers with the Show points toggle.
- Invert: flips which shapes are kept and which are dropped, in either mode.
- Works with Source, Custom, and Device bases.
Composite with your original photo
- Overlay the result on your source photo, at the photo’s full native resolution. For Unsplash photos, Tessera fetches the full-resolution version rather than the 1080px preview.
- Blend with source: choose from 16 blend modes (Normal, Multiply, Screen, Overlay, and more) and set the opacity. Your choices are remembered between sessions.
Export formats
- SVG: overlay only.
- PNG and WebP: overlay only, or composited onto your photo.
- JPEG: composite only.
- Layout: the buttons appear in the same order as the main export dialog.
Layout and window
- Two-column layout: on wider screens, including tablets, the Partial Overlay modal shows the preview on the left and the controls on the right.
- Window memory (desktop): Tessera opens maximized the first time you launch it. After that it restores your last window size, position, and maximized state.
Fixes since 1.4.0
- Partial Overlay’s preview and controls now scroll independently, and the overlay stays lined up with the photo at small window sizes and for very wide or short images.
- Downloads from Partial Overlay now fall back to a normal file save if sharing fails, which was happening on iOS Safari.
- Sharing now works on browsers that don’t support
navigator.canShare. - Reconstructions with transparency now export with a truly transparent background when Canvas fill is set to Transparent.
- The Export preview now displays transparent images correctly.
- Canvas fill: Auto now detects the background color correctly for images with transparent areas.
- Errors during a run now show up instead of leaving the app hanging.
- Custom Glyph fonts now carry through to SVG re-export.
- The web app and installed PWA no longer get stuck on an old cached version after an update.
- All dialogs now have accessible names for screen readers.
