Video Album Problem with YouTube video in Backlight 3.1.3

I have a video album I created before installing Backlight 3.1.3. Before the upgrade, it worked just fine, now it doesn’t.

Here is a snippet of the content page of the album:

This is a YouTube video, VIDEO ID: FzbSwFxSJHU

When I view the album, it comes up with a blank video page with a very, very small “download” icon in the lower left corner:

If I click on the icon, it takes me to the video on YouTube. If I click back in Firefox to return to the album page, the cover frame of the album then shows as it is supposed to:

I tried deleting the album page and recreating under 3.1.3, but still have the same problem.

Please, help as this has already caused a couple of embarrassing comments when I posted the link to this page of Facebook.

Thanks

You can see the link to the album page in the screenshot, but here’s a link you can copy/paste:

https://www.michaelboatright.com/special-projects/dark-houses-atlanta/videos/acp-2020-artist-s-talk/

And I should note that two other video albums work just fine. The one that is broken is about 37 minutes long, the other two are about 7 and 4 minutes each.

None of the videos on that video page are working for me.

Is your Theater add-on up to date?
Looking at the page source code I see that the videos are sourced from http://. But your site’s address starts with https://. So I’m wondering if they’re being blocked for security reasons?

Rod, yes

Like I said, this started happening after upgrade to 3.1.3.

I don’t think so. The link is to youtube, and is generated by Backlight. If it is a problem, it’s a pretty bad Backlight problem, wouldn’t you think?

I can’t recreate the problem on my test site. I used your video ID and the video shows up and works fine in a test album and it was sourced from https://

I don’t know if this will make a difference for you (it didn’t seem to for me), but check your Backlight Settings under Privacy. Make sure that Automatically Redirect Browsers To https is set to Yes

Done.

Originally, it was pointing a different gootube account that I didn’t have control over. It may or may not have had a video thumbnail. I reposted to my gootube account and made sure it was embeddable (I’m pretty sure it was previously) and that it had a thumbnail.

Tried it again, and it happened the exactly the same, then I refreshed and it went away. I’m not sure if this is intermittent or fixed. Cross platform stuff is always so fun to debug…

Thanks

Another thing to try is the Update Album Files link on the the main Backlight dashboard under Special Links.

OK. That was painless. Thanks!

After this lemming just walked into the sea…what exactly does that do and when should one do it?

As I understand, it updates album files after things like changes in Publisher or updates. Ben can provide a more technical explanation.
I try it any time there’s album weirdness and always after major updates.

Good tip…thanks, Rod
