Video support in 6.4 problem

I installed BL 6.4.0 a few days ago when trying to trouble shoot a couple of odd gallery errors. I fixed the first - don’t move your graphical watermark files without telling LR! Odd things happen. The second is a work in progress. In the process I installed v6.4.0 to try to resolve the issue and immediately jumped on the Audio/Video support now available. There seems to be an issue with my pages loading thumbnails in Kookaburra album sets and albums (including masonry and carousel, I’ve not tested others), but not Pangolin albums. I presently have no Kookaburra essay galleries and a mixture of Kookaburra and Pangolin albums - the latter presently only used for video and Fotomoto galleries. Not sure where to troubleshoot from here. Thoughts? For the time being I’ve turned Video off and everything works.

That is extremely odd. I can’t think of any reason that should be happening.

Can you setup a page that exhibits the issue and share the URL so that I can check for any errors that might be occurring?

My site is pretty low volume and it’s doubtful anyone will notice it malfunctioning for 24 hours. I’ve turned video back on. I’ve tried multiple browsers including Chrome, Opera, Edge, Firefox and Tor all on Windows 11. Also tried on Chrome with a narrow/smartphone window and similar findings and the drop down menu also fails. Lastly, tried on my Samsung S22 android with similar findings on Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera and Tor. On my wife’s iPhone 14 using Chrome and Safari browsers have similar results.

I’ve been unable to get far enough along to create a Kookaburra media album as the essay window will not load. Hope this helps.

I have also tried reinstalling Backlight and clearing the template cache. All modules appear to be up to date with version 6.4.0.

The home page uses an essay carousel element inserted …

This does look to be the same issues I’m attempting to troubleshoot in Enable Media Presentations - Problems.

Followed Ben’s recommendations on the parallel post Enable Media Presentations - Problems and everything seems resolved. I will dig deeper later today.

Thanks,
Matt and Ben.

Great! Glad to hear it’s working for you.

Had some time to look further into Essay behavior. Mostly everything works … except. The Kookaburra Essay selector icon inside a Kookaburra album displays correctly and opens correctly including with the new Media option. I am still having difficulty with opening the icon when a Kookaburra album set page is loaded.

Kookaburra album set sample URL: Ireland - James Herman Photography and has a malpositioned essay icon and opens a distorted window. Esc with close and return to page.

The Kookaburra album icon displays correctly and opens in a normal window. An example URL is: https://jamesherman.net/galleries2/europe/3_ireland/cliffs-of-moher-2023/

Just occurred to me that Matt or Ben may need an administrator login to further troubleshoot. Happy to provide if needed.

Yeah, I can’t see that UI unless I’m logged into your Backlight. But a breakage like that would typically occur if you’ve introduced malformed HTML to the page, for example if you’ve opened a tag and neglected to close it.

Odd that. Looks like I have a bit too much help with a cache somewhere. Tincture of time has cured the problem. I turned the Custom CSS and PHPlugins off in Kookaburra Page Advanced and the problem resolved. Then I turned them back on and could not replicate the problem.

Clearing the cache often helps if you’re making changes. You can use ?reloadModel&skipCache on the end of your URL when frequently refreshing changes. I use it a lot when I’m working.

Thanks everyone. I’ll add the above to my active URLs when actively working on my site. I’ve now managed to convert everything to Kookaburra except my Fotomoto galleries.

Regards,
James

I’m glad to hear that Fotomoto is still of value. I do intend to implement it in Kookaburra, but hadn’t prioritized it because I didn’t know whether anyone was using it.
