Websites no longer reachable after Backlight 5 Install

In my public_html folder I have 4 sites. After Backlight 5 install I can no longer access them using just the domain name. I have to add “/index.html” to the domain name. These are sites I maintain for others including my church.
The main site is trinitykg.org and all its files are in public_html. The other sites are in subfolders. I get internal server error with the domain name.

hosting is Inmotion

HELP!

My site (where Backlight 5 is installed) is still reachable via domain name

Are all of these sites supposed to be Backlight-based sites?

I looked at http://trinitykg.org/index.html and see that it’s not a Backlight site. The reason you need to add /index.html is that you’ve installed a Backlight index.php in the root of the site and your trintykg.org url will default to that index.php file (the Backlight site)

the current trinity.org/index.html cannot live side by side with a Backlight installation. It either needs to be rebuilt as a Backlight site, or put in its own subfolder.
Or install your Backlight based sites in sub-folders or (better yet) sub-domains.

Thanks Rod,

Trinitykg.org has a Backlight photo gallery, but is not itself a Backlight site like mine (lukemiller.photos) is. Up until I upgraded to Backlight 5 all was working well. I’m not very knowledgeable about website development and can use all the help I can get. Is there a way to uninstall Backlight 5 until I can get this sorted out?

The sites that currently reside in subfolders don’t work either.

If you’re just using Backlight for albums, then remove the index.php file from the root of the site.
Same thing with the .htaccess file, assuming you also uploaded that when you uploaded the index.php file.
You only need those if you’re building a whole site with Backlight

That worked! Everything back to normal.

Thanks Rod. You have always been very helpful and it is much appreciated.
