I have finished designing my client response gallery and I tested it on my mobile phone and tablet as well, both in Safari and Chrome. In the tablet, everything works perfectly. However, if I see the gallery in the phone in portrait mode, the image thumbnails are missing the Selection Icon on top. You are unable to select an image while browsing the gallery. If you click on the image, the slideshow starts and in there you are able to select the image. If you leave the slideshow and go back to the regular gallery scroll now that selected image displays the previously missing Selection Icon and now it can be deselected and selected, but only that image… the rest of them still are unelectable.
Landscape mode on the phone works fine. The issue is only with portrait. I tried forcing the screen breakup to only one column for the smaller screens thinking it might me an issue of space, but the Selection Icon is still not showing.
When thumbnails shrink to mobile sizes, the icon just gets in the way of actually viewing the image. The intended experience that that users should be making selections from within the slideshow view – actually looking at the image – not while squinting at a microscopic thumbnail on their phone. Especially now that a significant portion of that image is hidden behind an icon.
IMO, all your edit achieves is to create clutter on tiny screens, and encourage undesired behavior.
Wanted to bring this up again as I also want my customers to “heart” a picture when in Grid View even when on smartphone. Why? Well, this way they have best overview of all pictures selected by just scrolling.
Of course there is a button to only show “hearted” images. But who reads? No one
The customer wants it easy - if it makes sense to you or not does not apply. Customer is King. We have had couple of customers calling us due to not understanding the system.
I understand your point @Matthew. And you are right about microscope view but wouldn’t it be best to let every admin decide on its own what he wants for his customers?
I also changed it in css. Thanks @Rafael !!!
I would very much appreciate being able to on/off grid icons on portrait view on smartphones in the settings.
