How do I adjust my aspect ratio to fill the Galleria space?

The dimensions as dpi of my images are: original dimensions: 2048 x 1152 240dpi
Using an aspect ratio calculator the ratio is 16 : 9
At that ratio the image appears like this on my Galleria page:
aspect-ratio

If I lower the ratio to 12 : 4 (which has no relationship to 16 : 9) it removes all of the top and bottom padding, but has no affect on the left and right padding.

How do you properly calculate how to fit the image into the frame? There doesn’t seem to be anyway to adjust the frame, other than changing the overall page width.

can you post a link to an album?

Sure. Can I remove it after? I don’t want it to stay online. Or can I send it to you privately? It’s from a PowerPoint presentation and I’d rather it not be a public link.

Can you just create a non-sensitive album? that way the developers have a chance of seeing it too.

But you can message me the link if you want.

I tried adding the password option in LR Publisher and all it did was put a lock on the thumbnail image to each album, but it still links through to the Galleria pages with no password required.

It will do that if you’re logged into Backlight and viewing the album using the same browser

Here you go.

Your images are only 640 X 360 px.

Did you happen to first publish the album and then change the image rendering size in the template?

You need to republish the images. If using Lightroom Publisher, edit the Publisher settings and make sure that neither the “Push metadata without updating existing photos” or “Publish thumbnails without updating other renditions” are checked.

If using Backlight Publisher, you’ll need to re-upload the images.

Not sure which template you are referring to. I don’t see image rendering size for the Galleria images anywhere.

Yes using Publisher in Lightroom. Neither of those are checked.

I don’t understand how they can be 640 x 360 (although the aspect ratio is still 16 :9) If I export one of these from Lightroom it’s 2667 x 1500. Is Publisher resizing them?

All album templates have a section titled Image Renditions. Those settings control the image size created by Lightroom Publisher.

In Backlight, edit your Galleria album template. You’ll see four sections. The third one is Image Renditions.

That did it! Thanks Rod. I must say that is counter-intuitive - that the photo dimensions in Backlight determine the uploaded image size from Lightroom. I would think that Publisher uploads full sized images and then they are resized to whatever you want by Backlight - not the other way around. I tried using those photos sliders and they didn’t have any affect to uploaded images so I thought they didn’t apply to Galleria.

You need to publish that manual someday :grinning:. Thanks again. I’m good to go now.

From the first days of Publisher (CE3), Lightroom resized all renditions before uploading. That was the only way to do it.

There is now a feature available in Backlight that has Publisher uploading a Master rendition and then Backlight creates the needed renditions. It saves time in uploading.

Thanks. Good to know. One last thing, as part of my original question, so the sizing of the Galleria frame seems to only be controlled by the width of the Page Layout, which is OK but that also affects the Masthead since it resizes the entire page.

this is true. What are you trying to do? did you want the slideshow to be larger or smaller than the page width?
it can’t be larger than the page width, but it might be able to be made smaller with custom css, or there may be other options to try with the masthead (I don’t recall what yours is like)

No, I’m OK with it the way it is. But if you have say, a logo in the Masthead that you want to be flush left, you can’t make the page full browser width without affecting the size of the slideshow. Good to know that that is the only way to adjust it without custom CSS, but the maximum width of the frame would be a good thing to have in Backlight in future for anyone who wants to do this.

You could use the Top Pallet Title instead of the Masthead (disable Masthead). Then set the Top Pallet Strict Width Enforcement to Off. This will make the top pallet the width of the browser.

You can then place a logo image in the Top Pallet Title area using phplugins and custom css.

The other option is to try using custom css to restrict the width of the Galleria stage or gallery area. I don’t know if this will work, a quick try using the browser inspector tells me that it may be difficult.

Actually, I think there’s a way to do this.
In your page template, under Layout, set the page width as wide as you can.
In the Content Areas section, set the Main Copy width to what you need. This should affect the copy areas and the gallery areas.

Make sure you put the Masthead in the Header section (in Masthead settings)

It looks like this is the way the main TTG site is done.

Matt has a blog post all about the masthead:

Setting the Content Areas main Copy width has no effect, but what I found does work (after setting the page Layout to maximum width) is to set the Layout Gutters to maximum which is 250px.

be careful with the gutters setting. Be sure to visit the site on mobile device to see the results.

There must be a setting that works. See Matt’s Galleria sample:
